Covered markets, open most days
If your schedule is tight, start under a roof. Built between 1813 and 1817, Marché Alimentaire Saint-Germain lines 112 stone arcades in the Odéon quarter with produce, fish, charcuterie, Spanish, Italian and Greek specialties, and Michel Sanders' cheeses. Yves Camdeborde's L'Avant Comptoir du Marché, under the same arcades, is a standing counter for lunch. In the 10th, Marché couvert Saint-Martin, rebuilt in the late 1980s on the site of an 1854 market hall, mixes organic groceries with a Moroccan restaurant, and it's liveliest on Saturday morning. Neighborhood street markets
This is market life as Parisians know it. In Montparnasse, Marché Edgar Quinet fills its boulevard on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 7am with cheese, charcuterie, seafood, local honey and preserves. Marché Convention in the 15th runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings, and Marché Auguste-Blanqui, between Place d'Italie and rue Barrault, sets up on Tuesday and Sunday, occasionally with an Asian street food festival; see more of the 13th arrondissement. Up north, Marché Ordener and Marché de la Fourche serve the 18th on Wednesday and Saturday, like Marché Belgrand near Gambetta. Late risers aren't forgotten. Marché d'Anvers, near Montmartre, runs on Friday from 3pm to 8:30pm with around 20 food vendors. Marché Batignolles Bio, 100% organic, opens Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
