Where to Eat in SoPi: 25 Quick Bites in the 9th
South Pigalle, SoPi to its fans, is one of the most photographed corners of Paris, and it shows: queues for pastel cafés, pretty pastries that taste mostly of sugar and, near the Moulin Rouge, sandwich counters feeding people who'll never come back. Knowing where to eat in SoPi on a lunch break is harder than it looks.
These 25 quick bites in the 9th are the ones worth the line: smash burgers, soba, Sichuan noodles, sourdough, cross-checked across Le Fooding, Time Out and Michelin. Got more time? Where to eat in SoPi and the rest of the 9th, fast
Most of these spots cost little, and the best ones share one rule: they sell out. Burgers, buns and pastries are made in limited batches, so noon beats 1 pm every time. Watch the calendar too: several are closed on Sunday and Monday, and one only serves weekday lunches. Filter by opening hours above, then open the map: much of the list sits around rue des Martyrs and rue Condorcet, with a few addresses closer to the Opéra.
Burgers that run out
Dumbo (Pigalle) is a 17-square-meter counter that presses smash burgers on a blazing plancha and serves them on potato buns with double-fried fries. It makes about a hundred burgers per service, so come at opening or book through the Le Fooding app. On rue Taitbout, Mangez et cassez-vous bakes around 200 buns each morning for lunch, and when they're gone, service is over; order the curry fries. More in our burgers and cheap restaurants picks.
Noodles, dumplings and soba
Abri Soba, a Bib Gourmand izakaya, serves buckwheat soba in 16 hot and cold versions, plus duck with leeks and a buckwheat crème brûlée; book, it's small. Atelier Mala makes its noodles by hand before every service for dandan mian with a heat scale from 0 to 5 (start at 2). Délice de Condorcet folds its own dumplings and noodles, with weekday lunch formulas that barely dent a budget. Neko Ramen pours tonkotsu, shoyu and shio bowls with vegan and gluten-free options, and Hanoi Corner serves bánh mì, bò bún and drip-filter Vietnamese coffee on weekdays only, until 4 pm. See our Japanese quick bites, ramen and noodles and Vietnamese food.
Bakeries, ice cream and late-night crêpes
Mamiche, on rue Condorcet, hand-kneads its sourdough and bakes babka and chocolate-filled beignets; go mid-morning for the best choice, and not on Sunday or Monday. On rue des Martyrs, Glaces Glazed scoops more than 30 flavors, from a pistachio and black sesame cream to a pickle sorbet. Crème serves crêpes, waffles and ice cream every day until 2 am, and So Nat fills veggie and vegan bowls at lunch. For more sweet stops, browse our croissants and ice cream guides.
