Where to Eat in Le Marais: 77 Places Locals Rate
Le Marais is where every visitor ends up on a Saturday afternoon, and where the crowd picks your lunch for you: the longest queue, the prettiest terrace, the crêpe stand with a menu in six languages. Some of those queues are worth it. Plenty aren't.

Where to eat in Le Marais, block by block
Le Marais is small enough to cross on foot in twenty minutes, which is exactly why a plan pays off. The north, the Haut-Marais in the 3rd, is galleries, cocktail bars and young chefs. The south, in the 4th, runs from the Hôtel de Ville to Place des Vosges and the Île Saint-Louis, with more institutions and more crowds. Open the map above to see both halves at once, with prices and opening hours on every pin.
Rue des Rosiers, done right
The falafel street is real, but pick your counter. L'As du Fallafel has been stuffing pitas on rue des Rosiers since 1979; it closes Friday evening and Saturday for Shabbat, so plan around it. Nearby, Miznon roasts whole cauliflowers and fills pitas with beef bourguignon, and is also closed on Saturday. Both are cheap and fast. More like them in our Middle Eastern street food picks.
Old Paris at the table
Benoit Paris has served pâté en croûte and sole meunière in the same Belle Époque room since 1912, and holds a Michelin star for it. Bofinger, founded in 1864, serves choucroute and mussels in Riesling under a glass dome. And for the dinner of a lifetime, L'Ambroisie on Place des Vosges still offers an à la carte menu at three-star level, which almost nobody does anymore. Compare it with the other Michelin 3-star restaurants.
When the galleries close
The Haut-Marais turns into a bar crawl after 6pm. Little Red Door has been named to the World's 50 Best Bars nine times for its farm-to-glass cocktails. Candelaria hides a speakeasy behind a tiny taqueria. Le Mary Celeste pairs natural wine with kimchi wontons. Browse our bars and wine bars for the rest.
Something sweet, then the next neighborhood
Save room for Berthillon's salted butter caramel on the Île Saint-Louis, or a cone at Pozzetto; our ice cream page has more. When you're done, walk east to the bistros of the 11th arrondissement, or west to the Louvre and the 1st.
