The 50 Best Sandwiches in Paris, from Jambon-Beurre to Falafel

How to find the best sandwich in Paris
In Paris, the sandwich is a bread story first. A proper baguette sandwich needs a crust that crackles and a crumb that's still soft, bought the same day, with good butter and fillings cut to order. The same rule applies to pita and flatbread: made fresh, filled generously, eaten warm. Every place page tells you what regulars order, when the queue is shortest and what it costs, which helps when the best counters only open for lunch.
French classics on a baguette
Le Petit Vendôme, steps from Place Vendôme, makes its famous sandwiches to order on crusty baguettes: jambon sur l'os carved on the spot, or pâté. Sandwiches start at 9:30am with no reservation, so beat the noon rush; the bistro side stays open until 1am from Tuesday to Saturday. Bakeries like Mamiche bake every loaf in-house, which makes even a simple sandwich shine. More in our baguette guide.
Pita, falafel and the Marais
L'As du Fallafel has been a Marais institution since 1979: falafel in warm pita with tahini and its famous white sauce, for about €10. Ask for the sauce, then walk to the Place des Vosges to eat. A few streets away, Miznon, chef Eyal Shani's pita bistro, stuffs pita with anything from beef bourguignon to ratatouille, and serves its whole roasted cauliflower on the side; no reservations. See our Le Marais and Middle Eastern street food pages. In the Marché des Enfants Rouges, Chez Alain Miam Miam builds XXL sandwiches in front of you for about 8€.
Kebab done right
In the 10th, flatbread rules. On the Faubourg Saint-Denis, Urfa Dürüm serves Kurdish lahmacun for 2.50€ and dürüm with flame-grilled meat for around 10€, seven days a week. On rue des Petites Écuries, Ozlem makes döner from marinated veal breast with flatbread baked each morning, lunch only, Monday to Saturday. Browse the 10th arrondissement for more.
Where to look
The 11th has the most sandwiches on this list, then the 10th and the 9th, so start with the 11th arrondissement. Most places are budget-friendly. Go before noon or after 1:30pm to skip the office crowd, and use the map to find the closest good bread.
