Just Off the Train: 32 Restaurants in the 10th Arrondissement

Walk ten minutes instead. Between the two stations and the Canal Saint-Martin hide some of the most exciting restaurants in the 10th arrondissement, most of which look like nothing from the street. These 32 tables were cross-checked across Le Fooding, Michelin and Time Out. Want bars and cafés too? See the full 10th arrondissement guide. Where to find the best restaurants in the 10th arrondissement
The 10th is one of the rare central neighborhoods where cheap and excellent overlap: a big share of this list is budget or mid-priced, with only a few splurges. Think of it as three clusters on the map: the Faubourg Poissonnière streets to the west, the area around Gare du Nord, and the canal to the east. Many kitchens close on Sunday and Monday, so check the opening hours before you set off.
Bistros and small plates
Les Arlots is famous for one dish, a house sausage with silky mash, and for a sommelier who talks you through more than 250 natural wines instead of handing you a list. Book by phone, with a human: the answering machine doesn't count. Eels serves Adrien Ferrand's smoked eel and seasonal plates between stone walls, with a lunch menu that's a steal. Brigade du Tigre, a Bib Gourmand, travels across Asia with lacquered pork nigiri and blood sausage ravioli. On rue d'Hauteville, COMER cooks contemporary Mexican (tortilla barbacoa, chocoflan), while ChoCho, on rue de Paradis, mixes French, Catalan and American ideas in small plates. More in our Bib Gourmand and Latin American food picks.
A blind menu near Gare du Nord
If you have a few hours before your train, Mâche is worth planning your day around. Chef Michaël Gamet serves blind tasting menus of four or six courses, vegetable-forward and paired with natural wine, in a room straight out of the Memphis design movement. Tell them about allergies when you book, since the menu is planned ahead. See our trendy restaurants for more.
Along the Canal Saint-Martin
Le Verre Volé helped start the natural wine movement: a tiny room lined with bottles, where you'll need a booking to eat. Sur Mer is Olivia Davoux's seafood bistro, with Galician sea urchin and a lunch plat du jour. Gros Bao fills two floors with char siu bao and Cantonese plates, half of them vegetarian; ask for the upstairs terrace for canal views. On the Quai de Valmy, Le Maquis by New Soul Food cooks Afro-Caribbean dishes over a wood fire. Elsewhere in the 10th, Faubourg Daimant serves plant-based bistro food under Belle Époque tiles. Browse our Chinese restaurants, African food, vegan food and Fooding wine bars for more around the canal.
